Barnwell: Fitzpatrick played as expected, maybe a little better

Now that the Texans have moved on from veteran free-agent pickup Ryan Fitzpatrick, the rest of this season will be about figuring out what’s next.

Will Ryan Mallett play his way into being the Texans’ future? Will they turn to Tom Savage late in the season?

While we wait for the answers to those questions to develop, we can assess how Fitzpatrick played in the nine games Texans coach Bill O’Brien gave him. And, as Grantland’s Bill Barnwell sees it, Fitzpatrick’s performance shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise to the Texans, given the nine-year sample size they had beforehand.
