Cardinals’ best bet at third-string QB is familiarity

TEMPE, Ariz. — Soon after Arizona Cardinals backup Drew Stanton scrambled for four yards on a second down in the fourth quarter Sunday afternoon, coach Bruce Arians had some choice words for him.

The message was clear, however he chose to relay it: Slide. Arizona couldn’t afford for Stanton to get hurt, and not just because starting quarterback Carson Palmer was already out of the game with what ended up being a season-ending knee injury and third-string Logan Thomas was inactive.
