Philip Rivers full participant in practice despite chest injury

SAN DIEGO — Antonio Gates was right, to a point.

The San Diego Chargers listed quarterback Philip Rivers on Wednesday’s injury report with a chest injury. Gates told reporters after his team’s win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday that Rivers had been playing with a severe rib injury for three or four weeks.

Gates later backed off of those comments a day later on Monday, stating his words were taken out of context. Chargers head coach Mike McCoy did not confirm that Rivers had a rib injury, saying his quarterback was healthy.
